Introducing My Personal Heraldry

Jabic F.

Personally, I believe that everyone needs more ways to identify themselves than just Government-Issued ID & a Signature. To that end, I’ve recently designed my own, personal Heraldry Items, namely a Simplified Coat of Arms & Flag. Here they are, with their descriptions, and explanations

Flag

Jacob Feser Flag

My Personal Flag is relatively simple, formed of of a Black Shield Pale, centred upon a Red Field. Upon the Shield, A Green Cross, with three stars bearing four points each, sit.

Symbology

Canada

The Red Field is the same colour as the Red on the Canadian Flag, representing my Canadian Citizenship. In addition, the Shield, which is formed in a way I’m referring to as the “Shield Pale” is proportioned so that the upper portion of the flag is the correct proportions of a Canadian Pale. That is to say, the upper 2/3 of the Flag (before the characteristic slant of the Shield Pale) has the right ratio (0.25:0.5:0.25) to be a Canadian Pale

Africa

Rather than represent the two African Nations I lived in individually, I represented them together via colours. Red, Green, and Black are generally considered the “Pan-African Colours”, hence why they show up on my flag.

Personal Interests

The Shield Pale (as far as I know, a Vexillological Term that I coined) is a design I’ve used in many of the flags I’ve made for my worldbuilding escapades (see: Rennian National Flags), so the fact that the Shield Pale has crossed over into my own heraldry represents, to me, how much of my life & mental energy I’ve committed to my own worldbuilding.

The Triple-Star design is also a motif in my worldbuilding, but has several parallel meanings on this flag. They are:

  • My 3 Siblings
  • The 3 Countries I’ve called home (Canada, Tanzania, Kenya)
  • The 3 Canadian Provinces I can call home (Ontario, Québec, Alberta)
  • 3h00 AM, The hour I went to bed at after finishing these Heraldic Symbols.

The Cross seems self-evident, as its one of the most recognisable symbols worldwide.

Colours

There are 4 colours present on this flag.

Red

The Red found on this flag is the same shade of red as found on the Canadian Flag. I have no idea what the Pantone Colour is, but the HSLA is 0/100/50/100, and the Hex code is ff0000ff

Green

The Green found on this flag is the same shade of Green as found on the Tanzanian Flag. The HSLA code is 131/72/41/100, and the Hex code is 1eb53aff.

Yellow

The Yellow found on this flag is the same shade of Yellow as found on the Tanzanian Flag. The HSLA code is 60/100/50/100, and the Hex code is ffff00ff.

Black

Black is Black, but if you want a real definition, it’s the same shade of Black as found on the Tanzanian & Kenyan Flags. The HSLA code is 0/0/0/100, and the Hex code is 000000ff.

Coat of Arms (Simplified)

Background/Top Left / Bottom Right Quadrants

These three sections are made of a design representing the standard 2×4 Lego Brick. This section has a pretty simple meaning: I like Lego and it’s a large part of my life.

Top Right Quadrant

The Dark Blue field is a colour-motif in my Worldbuilding. The Triple-Star is also a motif in the same world. Similar to its presence on my Flag, the Triple Star has parallel meanings, including:

  • My 3 Siblings
  • The 3 Countries I’ve called home (Canada, Tanzania, Kenya)
  • The 3 Canadian Provinces I can call home (Ontario, Québec, Alberta)
  • 3h00 AM, The hour I went to bed at after finishing these Heraldic Symbols.

Bottom Left Quadrant

The Shield from the Kenyan Flag is placed on top of the Canadian Maple leaf to represent my transposed self, having lived in both Kenya & Canada (as well as Tanzania, but I couldn’t get a combo looking good with the Tanzanian Flag involved as well).

Mottos

Because I’m indecisive, I chose Three Latin Vulgate Phrases from the Latin Vulgate Bible. They and their references are as follows

Beatus Vir Qui Non Abiit In Consilio Imporium

“Blessed is the Man who does not walk in the Counsel of the Wicked.” Psalm 1:1

This verse is meant to be a reminder to myself to always stay out of the reach of the Wicked and Stupid, and to keep my focus on God.

Gloriosa Dicta Sunt De Te Domini

“Glorious things of you are spoken,” Plasm 87:3

This verse looks cool as hell in Latin, but also is a reminder that God is glorious, and that in order to personally remember how great God is, I have to listen to the others proffessing his incredible nature.

Aperi Os Tuum Causis Omnium Filiorum

“Open your mouth for the Children,” Proverbs 31:8

My Bible’s translation (ESV) of this verse is “Open your mouth for the mute, / for the rights of all who are destitute.” This verse is meant to stand as a reminder to myself that I must never be satisfied that there are people who are less fortunate than myself, and any advantage I have in life I must use in order to help those that don’t have those advantages.

I hope that these heraldic symbols represent me as well as I think that they do. Undoubtedly over time who I am will change, and what I feel represents me will change, and along with that, these symbols will change. However, these symbols will always stand as a reminder of who I was on today, my 19th Birthday.
