History of Operations
Founding of the ECFL
Balkavanian Operations - CDPFL
After the Smelly Cabbage Incident, as the Rennian Government came into dubious levels of control of the Cagne Duchy, the RFF became nominally responsible for the operation of the Cagne Duchy Professional Football League (CDPFL), however they effectively did nothing with regards to that league, as it had already been mainly self-governing for most of its 48-year history. Following the 237 Season, reigning CDPFL Champions Cagne Beach FC requested to move between leagues, switching to the ECFL. The RFF approved the process, but as no team had previously moved to their governance with prior history, they technically re-registered a new team that just happened to have the same team makeup / details as Cagne Beach. This meant that none of Cagne Beach's nearly half-century history were reflected in its statistics, including all 17 of their League Championships, and their Cagnian Domestic Cup. After the 238 Season, the final four CDPFL teams also began discussion switching leagues, and attempting to beat them to the punch, League administrators began discussing a potential merger. However, with the intention to bring in not only a second tier of Football to Rennia, but also expand with new teams in the Interior, the RFF did not look favourably on allowing all 4 teams into the ECFL, instead allowing the two best finishers in the 238 CDPFL to move to the ECFL alongside 4 brand new all-Rennian teams, whilst the other two CDPFL teams moved to the newly founded Rennian AFC. All five teams continued to complain about the lack of history, as they valued not only their success in the CDPFL, but their history itself. The RFF initially objected, as they felt crediting two different Tier-two teams with Top-Flight Championships would undercut the value of Top-Flight Championships, and also objected because several original-5, founding members of the ECFL still had not won a Championship. Once Promotion and Relegation was introduced, though, they had no more concerns, and from the 242 season onwards, all official statistics included CDPFL records as well as ECFL records in official record books. They also took to the semi-formalised habit of referring to the pre-Smelly Cabbage ECFL as the "Irin League", as there was high amounts of controversy over the fact that teams such as, for example, the Osborne Rockets claimed to have 4 Top Flight trophies, despite having never once competed under that name, or ownership, in a championship season, and in fact, having 0 players who had played for both the 4x Championship winning Inare FC and their successor, Osborne.
