Background

After the Second Balkavanian War, also referred to as the Common War for Independence, the political structure across the Balkavanians became fragmented, with many new states forming. Although states rose and fell faster than the wind, the primary centers of political influence and power remained somewhat stationary in the years immediately following their independence. The western Balkavanians had three competing interests: Fortrionale/Terbicato (seat of power was changed alongside the regime change in 43) in the north, Mezhdograd in the centre, and Krajinograd in the south. The eastern Balkavanians, meanwhile, had Tavergrad and Zronägrad as competing centres of power.

The second Mezhdomnovene civil war, and the split between Mezhdomnoven and Dolzlatna began Mezhdograd's slow trek away from power. Although it remained influential simply through location, without the same level of unparalleled access to the southern passageways, its control over east-west trade dwindled, and so did its political influence. Similarly, as a once-unified Krajyna split, first losing metals-rich south-western territory to Buklirasakzi, then the secession of Cptivöckak, and finally the fall of Krajinograd itself, the "Jewel of the South" lost its ability to influence others, barely holding onto itself. Fortrionale, as the only truly stable seat of power in the West, became the political centre of the region by default, and this lack of rival led to complacency on an international scale.

Beginning with the union of Nakorenta and Vasdutevi in 236, Zronägrad began to eclipse Tavergrad in importance. As the Nakorentan Union expanded, leading up to the Third Balkavanian War, Zronägrad began to be seen as the single pre-eminent seat of power in the archipelago.

Rennian Relocation

Following the Smelly Cabbage Incident, the Rennian Nation's relocation, invasion, and settlement of the Balkavanians became the most significant political moment in Balkavanian History. Their rebound into being a manufacturing powerhouse, at a time when most economies in the archipelago were faltering or failing outright, was spurred on by a cosmically good set of fortunes, and a deeply, and suddenly impoverished population, with nothing left to lose, and a huge sense of national unity and pride. Role of Florencia Iadnes Pova

Rennian Colonel Florencia Iadnes Pova (born Florencia Iadnes Caesia) is without question, the key architect in Rennia's international position, holding a position governing foreign affairs under Emperors Ren, Krennic, and Cagne, as well as the entire time Tiberius Rex ruled the nation. Emperor Sergio Ren appointed her Colonel of the first Foreign Legion in 245, a position she held until the dissolution of the Empire. She was re-appointed by the first Council of Tetrarchs following Rennia's democratization to a similar position, Foreign Secretary, a role she held until 278, when she retired from public service. Her influence over Rennian Foreign policy cannot be understated, as Emperors Krennic and Rex both held complete faith in her, and she had amassed enough political power and will to continue to run Rennian foreign policy effectively unopposed until her resignation, nearly a decade into Rennia's Democratic Rule.

Post-War Division

Rennian Negotiators, primarily led by Pova, created a post-war landscape completely unrecognisable to any Balkavanian resident from just 30 years prior. Thanks to the large amounts of propaganda produced by the Rennian Military, international opinion of the Rennians was at an all time high amongst Legion Nations citizens. In addition, their role as the first to be invaded, and the force to take down Zronägrad gave them massively good PR. Cklserolva's military failures across the North, and the stagnant Soramti Front that most of their troops had been bogged down in for a large portion of the war meant that entering the discussions on post-war policy, they came with a smaller hand.
