Balkavanian Ice Hockey Championship

From Wiki Balkavani

The Balkavanian Ice Hockey Championship saw the Nations of the EotLP go head to head every year for the title of Hockey Champions. The format and entrants often varied year to year due to the generally unstable political landscape of the Balkavanians. The first year of the Championship was 230, when a delegation of Hockey representatives from Norasul, Nakorenta, and Cklserolva organised the competition with several other countries.

Format & Regulations

Due to the complex political tensions and situations in the Balkavanians, often times nations with a historical or current conflict or rivalry between them would face each other across the competition. Although initially, rules were proposed that would prevent certain nations from facing each other, this proved too complicated to ensure in a tournament, so as a safety precaution, instead additional officials were added to the roster in addition to the international standard pf 2 referees & 2 linesman. At the request of either Team (up to 15 minutes before the game start), additional officials referred to as "Safety Referees" ("Safeties" or "Guards" colloquially) wearing equipment similar to a standard referee, except with yellow replacing the standard white stripes on a referee's clothing, could be deployed to the game. A team could request up to 10 Safeties, who would be stationed in boxes similar to the penalty box, on either side of the penalty boxes, who would emerge onto the ice in order to break up fights or roughs, and help referees guide penalised players into penalty boxes. Any game where Safeties were deployed, a Steel-Cable net would be placed in front of the players bench, preventing any players from entering or exiting over the bench wall, and a plexiglass panel would be placed atop the player bench doors, which could be remotely locked by game officials, to prevent players or personnel on the bench from entering the ice in the event of a wide-spread fight or brawl.
