Fire Formula Lego Racing Engineering

(Redirected from Fire FL)

Fire Formula Lego Racing Engineering was the first team to join the sport, in Season 9. They entered their first Grand Prix in 252. It is owned by Bryne Ellys and her Fire Wheels company, based out of Karebyr. Thanks to the engineer's familiarity with building supercars (such as the Fire Wheels Fire1), the engineers managed to overcome their disadvantage at being new in the sport. While they had never created something quite on the level of a Formula Lego car, they were strong contenders, proving themselves a capable team many times under their Lead Engineer Ermyth Alded, and Team Manager Hadley Benett, who had led Octan during their best days, and her hand-trained successor, Lila Abeke.

Their Power Unit Naming Scheme is somewhat confusing, although the name almost always either features an acronym for "Fire Wheels" and/or "Formula Lego".

Their Chassis Naming Scheme is also very unique, with each chassis getting a unique name, chosen by the engineers. Their Season 10 Chassis, the Kira, was named in memory and honour of Kira Sanchez, the greatest driver of all time.

Season 9

Fire's Debut Season was slightly better than either Alded or Ellys expected, as they managed to finish with a net 0 points. They also scored a podium with Camilla Cyne's P3 at the tragic Race 6. Their car was very innovative, a trait they would come to be defined by in later years. It was the "Flattest" of the cars on the grid, and their full-engine split design took a very different philosophy than the other engines on the grid. Their Driver choices were quite good for their first season, as every driver managed to finish with Points, although Russel Perez, Eva Renita, and Nhadi Yousuf all were dropped for the next season, partially thanks to the shrinking of teams by 2 drivers for Season 10, and partially to accommodate Jakov Franjic's Season 10 debut into the sport.

Season 10

Season 10 saw unbelievable performance out of Fire, as they managed to finish P2 in both the constructor's and driver's standings, scoring 2 wins (with Cyne) and 6 Podiums. By the skin of their teeth they lost both Titles, with Cyne coming P2 overall by just 5 points, and National beating them out for Constructor's Title by a single point on the final lap, when Maria Garcia managed to slip past Franjic, putting Fire in the Negative Point range. However, despite a double-heartbreak on the final race, Ellys and Alded were both very happy that they had manage to come to the front of the pack so quickly.

Season 11

After remarkable success the previous season, Fire overestimated their chances in Season 11, and devoted more of their resources than they should have to the Season 13 Rules Change, and therefore took a step backwards in the championship, Finishing P3 overall, but a distance away from Octan, who themselves were a distance off of the eventual champions, National. Their only win came from Josep Vikalkin, who had returned to the grid after a year out of FL following the death of his Fiancé, Kira Sanchez, at Season 9 Race 6. Vikalkin won at Côte Blanche ahead of two other Fires, with Fire taking the only 1-2-3 of the season. Vikalkin proved all those who questioned his return to Formula Lego after a year away wrong, and proved he still had what it took, as he handily beat Cyne by 25 points in the Driver's standings, finishing P5 to her P7. The team and drivers were somewhat disappointed that they had taken a step back from the leaders over the season break, but were comforted by the knowledge that they were gaining a valuable head start on the S13 ruleset.

Season 12

Devoting even more resources to S13, aware that they couldn't recover much of S12 after their mistakes in developing for S11, and, as expected, they fell further off the leaders, but still held a healthy gap to P4. This season, Vikalkin once again outpaced Camilla Cyne over the season, although this time by just 5 points. Vikalkin himself refused to believe that he was faster than Cyne, claiming that any season that a team was uncompetitive when it should have been, it was near impossible for good drivers to keep motivation, and they often fell off of their teammates. When asked why he was still performing, he would answer that he didn't want to waste his second chance in FL. Cyne took the team's only victory of S12 at R8 in Dryzakyl, Kibylj, driving a mad race, with perfectly timed pitstops, that propelled her from her starting position of P10 in qualifying to a Victory that impressed all, even defending champion Aleks Rosya, and especially her teammates, Vikalkin as well as Sarah Martins. At the end of the season, when Avayah Osborne found herself without a drive, Fire pursued her to race for them in S13, based mostly off of her incredible performance in the Windsor, which she raced for the last 2 races, managing a P8 on her debut with the new, 5th fastest vehicle. Sarah Martins was let go, and found a drive at Dragon.

Season 13

With a major Technical Rules shakeup in Season 13, Fire saw their opportunity, and pounced on it full-force, developing a supremely dominant car, the Minerva, which their star lineup - Camilla Cyne, Avayah Osborne, and Josep Vikalkin - drove to Fire's first Constructor's Title & Driver's Title. The car had the dominance to be able to sweep the competition, leaving the only competitors for the Driver's Title Cyne & Osborne, Fire Teammates. Across the Season, Cyne bested Osborne by a sum of 15 points, to take home both hers & Fire's first Driver's Title. Winning both titles was a major milestone not only just in the History of the Franchise, but the sport as a whole, as it marked the first time that a non-original team won either of the Titles. Across the Season, Fire won 9 races out of 12 (Cyne won 4, Osborne 3, and Vikalkin 2), absolutely dominating the competition. In terms of Team Points, they blasted to 117 Team points, 29 points clear of second-placed Windsor.

Emboldened by the previous season, Camilla Cyne & The team looked ahead to Season 14 as a chance for them to prove themselves more than a one-off fluke (which looked likely considering the dominance the team had shown across the season). Avayah Osborne, one of the two most experienced drivers in FL (along with Eva Sayll, the only two drivers to yet reach 99 Race Starts), felt as though she was performing at the best level of her career, and was equally hungry to finally achieve the highest position in Motorsport. Josep Vikalkin, who had faced a series of unfortunate events that knocked him out of Title contention, was also looking to become the third person to win a repeat title, and come back stronger after falling off the pace compared to the two Fire Heroines in S13.

Season 14

Season 14 looked to be an exciting one from the very beginning. The longest season to date (13 races), defending champion Camilla Cyne took an early lead in the Title battle against her teammate, Avayah Osborne. Once again it seemed as though the two would be the Title Protagonists of the season, which was only confirmed after Vikalkin was caught in brutal Crash with a back-marker. With the first victory of the season, and 3 poles in the first 5 races, Camilla Cyne took a strong start on the path to defend her title, but Osborne responded firmly, winning 3 of those same 5 races, taking and widening her lead over Cyne by up to 15 points by Race 5. Osborne maintained the lead until Race 7 - the midpoint of the season - before Cyne's response (back-to-back wins at Race 7 and Race 8, and another victory at Race 10) pushed Osborne back into 2nd overall. With just three races to go, Cyne held a lead of 30 points over Osborne after Race 10. But Avayah's determination and experience finally hit the perfect sweet spot, and she began to win races again. Taking the chequered flag first at Race 11 and Race 12, also taking pole at Race 12, she entered the final weekend just 5 points behind her teammate. But with Josep Vikalkin taking pole, and a precious 5 points, the two titans of Formula Lego were put into a position that required them both to perform at their absolute maximum: whichever driver finished ahead would be the victor, and take home the Driver's Title. It truly was a race for the ages, as for all 64 laps of the classic Formua Lego Circuit, neither of the two stepped a single inch wrong, each executing their race perfectly. But ultimately, a single position gained during Qualifying was what allowed Avayah Osborne to cross the line P1, for her 6th victory of the season, and end the season level on points with the defending champion - 900 a piece, the most ever for a Driver's Title. Avayah's 14-season journey was the longest ever to a Debut Title, and (for now) the longest journey to a Driver's Title of any type.
